The Higher Secondary School Certifi¬cate, also known as HSSC, is a public examination taken by students after taking Secondary School Certifi¬cate (SSC) / IGCSE / O LEVEL. The students of the age of 16 to 18 years are eligible for taking this Higher Secondary School examination. HSSC (F.SC / F.A / I.COM / ICS) is subdivided into Science and non-Science programs. The students concentrating in Science programs are awarded Faculty in Science (F.Sc) in which the students choose their Pre-Engineering, Pre-medical, Computer Science (referred as General Science )and Commerce Programs respectively. The major subjects which are taken in science are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, English and Computer Science while others are awarded Faculty in Arts (F.A.) certifi¬cate. These certifi¬cates are equivalent to the Junior college Associate degree awarded in United States of America and UK A levels Qualification.

1. Higher secondary School certifi¬cate (HSSC) is two years program and students of the age of 15 minimum can enter in this qualifi¬cation.
2. Students who received Secondary School Certifi-cate (SSC) / IGCSE/OLEVEL certifi¬cate (Passed in eight subjects minimum) are also eligible.
3. Students will be administered after taking test in English, Urdu and in their selected subjects in order to evaluate their academic abilities besides taking into account their previous academic record.

Higher Secondary School Certifi¬cate (HSSC) qualification comprises on two years and exam will be taken at the end of each academic year separately by relative Exams Boards i.e. Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (FBISE) / Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE). At the end of 1st year, students take exam of prescribed half syllabus and in 2nd year, they take the exam of remaining syllabus. HSSC proves the score of whole two years. Examinations are held in April each year with result issued in August. It is mandatory for all students to be registered with Roots College International (RCI) before taking the Board Examination.

In HSSC, scheme of study includes 6 subjects in Science / Arts while 7 subjects in commerce group. The curriculum includes a combinations of 3 compulsory 3/4 elective subjects. (4 elective subjects in commerce group.
